Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence

Welcome to 2018 HLES Cowboys!!! We’re looking forward to continuing the teaching and learning taking place at Highlands Elementary, now that staff and students are well rested and re-energized for the second half of the school year!
We have gotten right back in to the swing of things. All students completed their i-Ready Reading and Math Diagnostic 2 assessments in December so teachers and the leadership team will discuss the growth and progress of students as we work to have all students achieve high levels of learning! Students in grades 3-5 will also begin their test preparation, specific to the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). The intent is for students to become familiar with the Florida Standards Assessment and for teachers to use it as an instructional tool as they continue to teach the standards and prepare students for the state assessment. Students will also practice test taking strategies so they will be calm and confident on the day of testing.

We will celebrate Literacy Week from January 22nd – 26th. Each day that week students are encouraged to dress in our themed days:

Monday, January 22nd: “Sock It” to a Good Book (wear silly socks)

Tuesday, January 23rd: “Team Up” with a Good Book (wear a team jersey)

Wednesday, January 24th: “Hats Off” to a Good Book (wear your favorite hat)

Thursday, January 25th: “Brighten Up” with a Good Book (wear a bright shirt)

Friday, January 26th: Storybook Character Parade (more information to come)

Our school will also be having a book fair, please come out and support our school and a love of reading!!!!

Please congratulate Ms. Tennessee Martin, 5th grade teacher, who was selected by her peers as Highlands Elementary Teacher of the Year! Let’s also congratulations to Ms. Ilia Colon, ESE paraprofessional, who was selected by her peers as our School Related Employee of the Year.
