Math Club

Currently in Math Club at 21st Century, students are taking part in using math skills to solve real world problems through a program called Game of Life. Students practice using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills as they balance their fictional bank account and go through the everyday successes and struggles of life.

Students are first given a random identity printed on an envelope containing information that is pertinent to his/her "life" including age, job, weekly wages, marital status, number of children, and current balance of his/her checking and savings accounts.
Students the set up their bank register and open their envelopes to begin the Game of Life. Inside, they find 10 cards describing life events such as, paying bills, purchasing groceries and items for their children, as well as earning bonuses from their jobs, winning money for high bowling scores, and more. Students work through these cards using everyday math skills as they experience the Game of Life.
