2014 voya unsung heroes award
The2014 Voya Unsung Heroes Award was presented to Lois Barr and June Centeio in recognition of innovation and excellence in education.  Voya Unsung Heroes awards program honors American classroom heroes and their innovative programs that take student learning to new heights.  One hundred projects across the United States are chosen every year to receive $2,000 from Voya.  The top three projects will be granted an additional $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000.  The grant written by Lois Barr is titled “Around the World in Miniatures”.


This novel project uses visual representations created by June Centeio to interest students in learning about other societies, foreign cultures,and natural resources.  The miniature representations easily capture the attention of students making it easy and meaningful to learn about a global society.  “Around the World in Miniatures” is the next best thing to taking a field trip around the world!
