2018-2019 OPEN ENROLLMENT 
SEPTEMBER 17 TO SEPTEMBER 25


Dear District Employees,

This is your chance to choose the benefits that best meet the needs of you and your family. The opportunity to make your elections will be September 17th through September 25th. This year, all employees must re-enroll for benefits (including new hires) as the medical plans are changing for October 1st.

The District makes every effort to maintain generous benefits and keep costs down for you and your family. While our plans have seen rising costs every year in medical and pharmacy expenses, the Board has made the decision for the past four years to absorb all of these higher costs and keep your plan benefits and payroll deductions unchanged. The Board has also invested substantial funds to open and maintain the Center for Employee Health, which offers many healthcare services at no cost to you or your family members, if enrolled in any of our medical plans.

Unfortunately, these rising costs have created a significant shortfall in our State required claims fund reserve. In addition to the $6,398 per employee per year that the Board contributes to the fund, the Board contributed an additional $8.5 million this year to close this reserve, and we are now asking our employees and dependent to share in some of these higher costs. We spent a great deal of time evaluating these changes and worked hard to keep these increases to a minimum.

The plan changes will take effect on October 1st. Any increases to your payroll deductions will take place with the October 15th payroll, so please take the time to consider the best options for you and your family. We are still offering three medical plan options, and there is information on these changes online through the Risk and Employee Benefits Department website as well as your District email. Our Local Plus plan will continue to be free for employee-only coverage, however the Enhanced Local Plus (formerly the Wellness Local Plus) will now have a $25 per paycheck deduction for employee-only coverage. Please review the Open Enrollment information for all Benefit and Payroll deduction changes, as dependent coverage cost also increased in premium.

All other benefits offered by the District, including dental, vision, life and disability, remain the same as well as the EAP, Accident and Universal Life with Long Term Care benefits. These will roll over unless you actively make a new election. For Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), you will have to log on and elect your contribution amount for the new plan year. Your election for Flexible Spending Accounts does not roll over per IRS guidelines.

New in 2018! If you contribute $750 to your FSA, the District will contribute $250.
