‚ÄčCoronavirus Information For Parents and Students:

Ensuring the health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority for the Osceola County School Board. The district continues to be in regular communication with Osceola County Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Health about the coronavirus, and is following their guidance. At this time, there have been no cases of coronavirus identified in Florida.

Parents and students are asked to take some common-sense precautions that apply to many infectious diseases, like the flu. The most important are having students stay home from school if they are sick, covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and washing your hands frequently with soap and water. For additional information, visit the Florida Department of Health’s website at http://www.floridahealth.gov or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at https://www.cdc.gov/.

Be assured that the district will follow recommendations from county and state health officials in the event school closures are necessary. We will remain diligent in following the latest information available on this important health issue, and will communicate with parents as we receive new information.

Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  I am honored to be a Highlands Cowboy and to serve as the principal of such an awesome, caring community!    This year begins my 26th year as an educator and the sixth year serving in the Osceola County School District.

The staff at HLES is a dedicated group of educators committed to creating an environment of high academic expectations where all individuals grow to their greatest potential.   Students will be reading, writing, talking and solving in every content, every lesson every day.  What does that mean?  It means Highlands students will be a part of a college and career readiness culture that will equip them with the tools necessary to be successful today, tomorrow, and in years to come.

The road to success begins at Highlands Elementary.  Working together with you as a team, Highlands students will embark on a year filled with academic, social and emotional successes. Together we will work to prepare your child for many new and exciting opportunities. We look forward to building on the skills and strategies they bring with them this school year.
