Highlands Elementary Administrators Recognized by the State.
    Each year, the Florida Department of Education recognizes exemplary principals and assistant principals across the state for their contributions to their schools and communities. Recognition is given to school administrators who spearhead initiatives to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships with parents and community members. The following two Osceola administrators have been selected for recognition as 2014-2015 District Winners:
Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership - District Winner
Nadia Winston, Principal of Westside K-8
      •      Nadia Winston began her career in Osceola County in 1999 as a Language Arts teacher at Kissimmee Middle School. She has also held the following positions in the Osceola School District: Dean of Students at Kissimmee Middle School (2004-2006); Assistant Principal at Highlands Elementary (2006-2008); Principal of Highlands Elementary (2009-2012); and Principal of Westside K-8 (2013-present). Ms. Winston earned her bachelor of arts in English and her master of education in Secondary Education at the University of Florida, and her Education Specialist in Educational Leadership at Stetson University.

      Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award - District Winner
      Jason Hayes, Assistant Principal of Highlands Elementary School
           Jason Hayes first began his career in the Osceola School District in 2004. He has held the following positions: Third Grade Teacher at Poinciana Elementary (2004-2005); Teacher at Deerwood Elementary (2005-2007); and Early Intervention Specialist at Mollie Barrington Elementary in Austin, Texas (2009-2010). From 2010 to present, Mr. Hayes has been a Teacher at Deerwood Elementary, Assistant Principal at Deerwood Elementary (2012-2014); and Assistant Principal at Highlands Elementary (present). He received his bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of North Texas, a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Stetson University, and has completed additional graduate coursework in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas.

      "Both Mrs. Winston and Mr. Hayes are well deserving of this prestigious honor," said Superintendent Melba Luciano. "Their innovative leadership and dedication to academic excellence have increased student achievement and school performance."
